Taxidermy Snipe by Thomas Hall 1795-1820

Antique taxidermy Snipe in case by Thomas Hall dating from anywhere between 1795-1820 making this a very simple yet early case.

This case is a very early example of British taxidermy; cases by Thomas Hall can be very rare because of their great age. While this is a simple case, it reflects the humble beginnings of taxidermy and reflects how far the larger businesses that came after Thomas Hall took taxidermy. This case may be simple but it still has a certain rustic charm to it and a very large and interesting label on the reverse which includes a poem on the nature of taxidermy. Although part of the label is torn away, a similar label is reproduced in Pat Morris’ book A History of Taxidermy.
