Taxidermy immature Gannet by H. Burton circa 1900

An immature Gannet by H. Burton 120 Wardour St London circa 1900.

H. Burton was one of the most successful of London taxidermists who operated out of premises in Soho. His work was sought after by a number of eminent Victorian zoologists and he became embroiled in an argument over specimens between Walter Buller author of the famous book A History of the Birds of New Zealand and Walter Rothschild author of Extinct Birds. Much of his work featured tropical birds but this unusual example, in excellent condition, shows a Gannet in an immature state of plumage.
